PITTSBURGH (Interstat) — The Philadelphia Flyers will attempt to close out their first-round playoff series against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 5 on Monday night at PPG Paints Arena. The Flyers lead the best-of-seven series 3-1 after winning the first three games, the last two on the road, before the Penguins forced Game 5 with a 1-0 win Saturday in Philadelphia. Philadelphia finished the regular season with a 46-39 record. Pittsburgh went 41-44. Flyers forward Noah Cates has been productive throughout the series. He recorded a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win April 22, added a goal and two assists in a 7-1 victory at Winnipeg on April 11 and has points in six of his past 10 games overall. Penguins center Evgeni Malkin scored in a 2-5 loss April 22 and has a goal and an assist in the series. He recorded a hat trick and an assist in a 9-4 win against Florida on April 4 and has points in five of his past eight games. The Flyers have outscored the Penguins 11-5 in the series. Philadelphia has limited Pittsburgh’s top scorers in the three wins, holding the Penguins to two goals or fewer in each. Pittsburgh’s only win came Saturday when the Penguins held the Flyers scoreless for the first time in the series. Game 6, if necessary, will be Wednesday in Philadelphia.
