Preview: Penguins Visit Hurricanes in Key Eastern Conference Matchup RALEIGH, N.C. (Interstat) — The Carolina Hurricanes will look to solidify their playoff positioning when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins at Lenovo Center on Tuesday night. The Hurricanes (40-23-0) enter with a significant edge in the standings over the Penguins (32-31-0), who are fighting to stay in the Eastern Conference wild-card race. Carolina has won six of its last nine games, including a 6-3 victory at Edmonton last Friday, but is coming off a 5-4 road loss to Calgary on Saturday. Carolina forward Seth Jarvis has been a consistent offensive catalyst, recording six points (one goal, five assists) in his last five games. He had a goal and two assists in the loss to Calgary. Pittsburgh arrives after a dramatic 5-4 overtime win against Boston on Sunday, which snapped a two-game skid. Center Thomas Novak scored a goal and added an assist in that victory, extending his recent point streak. Novak has recorded points in three of his last five outings. The Penguins won the only previous meeting this season, a 5-1 home victory over Carolina on Dec. 30. Pittsburgh has struggled for consistency lately, however, alternating wins and losses over its past six games. Carolina’s potent offense, which has averaged 4.2 goals per game over its last five, will test a Pittsburgh team that has allowed 18 goals over that same span. The Hurricanes have been strong at home with a 22-9-0 record at Lenovo Center this season. Pittsburgh will continue a three-game road trip, while Carolina opens a brief two-game homestand. The Metropolitan Division rivals are scheduled to meet again in Pittsburgh next Sunday. The game is set for 7 p.m. EDT.
