Preview: Golden Knights at Capitals WASHINGTON (Interstat) — Two teams hovering near the .500 mark will look to gain traction when the Vegas Golden Knights visit the Washington Capitals on Friday night at Capital One Arena. Both clubs enter with nearly identical records. The visiting Golden Knights are 27-30 across all competitions this season, while the Capitals sit at 29-30. The game is the only scheduled meeting between the teams this season. Vegas arrives having snapped a two-game skid with a convincing 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Feb. 5. Center Jack Eichel led the way with a goal and an assist, while Ivan Barbashev added two assists in the victory. The win highlighted a recent pattern of inconsistency for the Golden Knights, who have followed a three-game losing streak with a two-game winning streak in their last five contests. Their road record has been a particular challenge, with losses in four of their last six games away from home. Washington also comes in off a Feb. 5 victory, having defeated the Nashville Predators 4-2. Defenseman Jakob Chychrun powered the win with a two-goal, one-assist performance, and winger Pierre-Luc Dubois contributed a goal and an assist. Goaltender Logan Thompson stopped 27 of 29 shots for the win. The Capitals have found a measure of stability at home lately, earning victories in three of their last four games at Capital One Arena. The matchup will feature a goaltending duel between Vegas’s Logan Thompson and Washington’s Darcy Kuemper, both of whom are expected to start. Thompson, who backstopped the Capitals to their most recent win, has been a workhorse for Vegas. For the Golden Knights, the contest opens a critical four-game road trip through the Eastern Conference. The Capitals, meanwhile, will look to build momentum before embarking on a three-game road swing of their own beginning next week. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. The game will be broadcast regionally on Monumental Sports Network in the Washington market and on Scripps Sports in the Vegas market. Next up for Vegas: At Pittsburgh Penguins, Sunday, March 1. Next up for Washington: At Montreal Canadiens, Saturday, Feb. 28.
