Preview: Avalanche at Mammoth SALT LAKE CITY (Interstat) — The surging Utah Mammoth will look to continue their push for a playoff spot when they host the Western Conference-leading Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night at Delta Center. The matchup features two teams on divergent recent trajectories. Utah (30-27-0) has won three straight and seven of its last 10 games, including a decisive 4-1 victory over Detroit on Feb. 4. Nick Schmaltz, with a goal and an assist, and goaltender Karel Vejmelka, who made 29 saves, powered that win. The Mammoth’s offense has been potent during this stretch, scoring four or more goals in six of those victories. Colorado (37-18-0), despite its strong overall record, has been inconsistent lately, alternating wins and losses over its past six contests. The Avalanche are coming off a 4-2 win over San Jose on Feb. 4, fueled by a two-goal performance from Artturi Lehkonen and three assists from Valeri Nichushkin. Star center Nathan MacKinnon added two assists in that game. The season series between these teams has been tightly contested. Colorado holds a 2-1-0 edge in the three meetings, but each game has been decided by a single goal. The Avalanche won the most recent matchup 1-0 in Denver on Dec. 23, 2025, while the Mammoth earned a 4-3 overtime victory at home on Oct. 21. For Utah, Wednesday’s game represents a critical test against the conference’s elite as they fight for postseason positioning. For Colorado, it’s an opportunity to stabilize its play and maintain its position atop the standings against a hot opponent. The Avalanche will begin a two-game homestand in Denver on Thursday against Minnesota. The Mammoth will remain at home to host the Wild on Friday.
