Preview: Sabres Visit Devils in Key Eastern Conference Matchup NEWARK, N.J. (Interstat) — The Buffalo Sabres and New Jersey Devils, two teams on opposite sides of the playoff line, will meet Wednesday night at Prudential Center in a game with significant postseason implications. The visiting Sabres (32-25-0) enter with a four-point cushion over the Devils (28-29-0) in the Eastern Conference standings. Buffalo has won seven of its last 10 games, including a 5-0 shutout of the New York Islanders on Jan. 24 and a 7-4 road victory over Toronto on Jan. 27. However, they are coming off a 5-2 home loss to Pittsburgh on Feb. 5, where Tage Thompson and Jason Zucker provided the scoring. New Jersey seeks to halt a three-game skid, having been outscored 8-1 in losses to Columbus, Ottawa and the Islanders since Jan. 31. Captain Nico Hischier scored the lone goal in Thursday’s 3-1 defeat to New York. The Devils’ last win was a 3-2 overtime victory against Nashville on Jan. 29. The season series is split, with each team winning convincingly on the road. The Devils blanked the Sabres 5-0 in Buffalo on Nov. 28, 2025, before the Sabres returned the favor with a 3-1 win in Newark on Dec. 21, 2025. Buffalo’s recent success has been fueled by offensive bursts, scoring four or more goals in six of their last ten contests. Thompson remains a central figure, leading the team with seven shots on goal in the loss to Pittsburgh. New Jersey, struggling to find consistent offense, will rely on goaltender Jake Allen, who made 11 saves on 13 shots in relief against the Islanders, and defenseman Dougie Hamilton to stabilize the back end. Following this matchup, both teams face quick turnarounds. The Devils travel to Pittsburgh on Thursday, while the Sabres begin a Florida back-to-back on Friday in Sunrise. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
