Preview
ANAHEIM, Calif. (Interstat) — A Pacific Division matchup with playoff implications is set for Tuesday night when the Anaheim Ducks host the Seattle Kraken at Honda Center. Both teams enter the contest on different trajectories. The Ducks (28-26-0) have won seven of their last 10 games and sit just outside the Western Conference playoff picture. The Kraken (26-28-0), meanwhile, have shown recent life with three straight victories after a five-game skid, keeping their postseason hopes flickering. The game features a compelling goaltending duel. Seattle’s Joey Daccord arrives in stellar form, having backstopped the Kraken’s current win streak. He stopped 83 of 90 shots in victories over New Jersey, Toronto and Vegas, including a 27-save performance in a 3-2 win over the Golden Knights on Saturday. For the Ducks, Lukas Dostal has been a workhorse and a key to their surge. He made 39 saves in a 2-1 shootout win over Colorado on Jan. 21 and has posted a .915 save percentage or better in six of his last eight starts, despite a 2-0 loss to Vancouver last Thursday. This is the fourth and final regular-season meeting between the clubs. Anaheim holds a 2-1-0 edge, including a 4-2 victory in Seattle just 11 days ago on Jan. 23. The Kraken won the prior meeting in Anaheim, 3-1, on Dec. 22. Seattle’s offense has awakened during its streak, scoring 15 goals over the three wins. Eeli Tolvanen, who had a goal against Vegas, and playmaking center Chandler Stephenson, who notched two assists in that game, will be relied upon to generate chances. Anaheim’s attack will look to rebound from being shut out in Vancouver, having scored four or more goals in three of their previous four contests. The Ducks will open a three-game homestand, while the Kraken begin a brief two-game Southern California trip before heading to Los Angeles on Wednesday. With both teams jockeying for position in a tight conference race, Tuesday’s contest carries significant weight as the season moves into its final months.
