WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Interstat) — The struggling Winnipeg Jets look to build on a recent victory over the New Jersey Devils when they visit the Prudential Center for a rematch on Tuesday night. The Jets (20-31-0) snapped a three-game skid with a 3-1 win over St. Louis on Jan. 20 but have since dropped two straight, including a 5-1 home loss to Detroit on Saturday. They will lean on their recent success against the Devils, having earned a 4-3 win in the teams’ last meeting on Jan. 11 in Winnipeg. Forward Morgan Barron, who had an assist in that Jan. 11 win, will be a player to watch for the Jets. He recorded an assist and four penalty minutes in the loss to Detroit, continuing a stretch of modest offensive contributions. Winnipeg’s attack has shown flashes, scoring six goals in a win over Minnesota on Jan. 15, but consistency has been an issue. The New Jersey Devils (27-25-0), meanwhile, are looking to rebound after a 4-2 road loss in Seattle on Sunday halted a three-game winning streak. They remain in the playoff conversation in the Eastern Conference and have been strong on home ice lately. Defenseman Dougie Hamilton is driving the Devils’ offense from the blue line. He is on a significant point streak, registering at least one point in each of his last eight games. In the loss to Seattle, Hamilton had a goal, an assist, five shots on goal and a hit. His playmaking and shot volume will be a key focus for the Winnipeg defense. The Jets won the previous matchup this season despite a three-point night from New Jersey’s Jack Hughes. Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves in that Jan. 11 victory for Winnipeg. Following this game, the Jets continue a road trip with games at Tampa Bay and Florida. The Devils will remain at home to host the Nashville Predators on Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
