COLUMBUS, Ohio (Interstat) — Two teams looking to build on weekend offensive outbursts meet Monday when the Los Angeles Kings visit the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena. The Kings (21-29-0) arrive after a 5-4 shootout win in St. Louis on Saturday, snapping a three-game skid (0-2-1). Alex Laferriere was pivotal in that victory, scoring a goal and adding an assist. The forward has points in two of his last three games and remains a key catalyst for Los Angeles. Columbus (24-27-0) is coming off an explosive 8-5 home win over Tampa Bay on Saturday, powered by Mason Marchment’s first career hat trick and a four-point night. The victory ended a two-game losing streak and showcased the Blue Jackets’ scoring depth. Monday’s matchup is the second and final meeting of the season. Columbus won the first game 3-1 in Los Angeles on Dec. 22. The Kings have struggled for consistency, going 4-5-1 in their last 10 games, but have earned points in three of their last five (2-2-1). Goaltending and secondary scoring behind Laferriere and Trevor Moore, who had a goal Saturday, will be critical against a Columbus team that has shown a potent attack. The Blue Jackets have been stronger at home lately, winning three of their last four at Nationwide Arena. Their recent 8-goal performance highlighted an offense that can strike quickly, with Marchment, Charlie Coyle and Adam Fantilli all contributing multi-point games against the Lightning. Los Angeles begins a four-game road trip with this contest, while Columbus opens a brief two-game homestand before hitting the road later this week. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
