Preview: Capitals at Flames CALGARY, Alberta (Interstat) — Two teams looking to halt recent slides will meet Friday night when the Washington Capitals visit the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome. The Capitals (24-26-0) have lost three straight and four of their last five, including a 5-2 defeat in Colorado on Monday. The Flames (21-28-0) have dropped two in a row and seven of their last 10, falling 2-1 in overtime to New Jersey on Monday. Washington will look to forward Ethen Frank to provide a spark. The center has been a bright spot during the team’s struggles, recording five goals and two assists in his last 10 games. He had a goal and an assist in the loss to the Avalanche. Calgary will likely counter with goaltender Devin Cooley, who has been sharp in limited recent action. Cooley has won two of his last three starts, posting a .957 save percentage while allowing just four total goals in those victories over Chicago and Pittsburgh. He made 29 saves in the overtime loss to New Jersey. Both teams sit outside the playoff picture in their respective conferences. The Capitals’ offense has been inconsistent, scoring two or fewer goals in four of their last five games. The Flames have struggled at both ends, ranking in the bottom third of the league in goals for and against per game. This is the first of two meetings between the clubs this season. They will meet again in Washington on March 24. The Capitals continue a four-game road trip in Edmonton on Saturday. The Flames host the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.
