Preview: Devils Visit Canucks in Cross-Conference Matchup VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Interstat) — The New Jersey Devils, riding a modest surge, will face the struggling Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Friday night in a cross-conference NHL matchup. The Devils (26-24-0) arrive on the West Coast with momentum, having won three of their last four games, including a 2-1 victory in Edmonton on Tuesday. They sit in the mix of the Eastern Conference playoff race. In contrast, the Canucks (16-33-0) are mired in a deep slump, having lost eight consecutive games and earning just two points from their last 10 contests. Their last win came on Dec. 30. A key player to watch for New Jersey is center Cody Glass, who is in strong form. He recorded a goal and an assist in the win over Edmonton and has collected six points (3 goals, 3 assists) in his last 10 games. His recent production has provided a secondary scoring boost for the Devils. For Vancouver, left wing Drew O’Connor has been a rare bright spot during the team’s skid. He scored a goal in Monday’s 4-3 loss to the New York Islanders and has four points in his last 10 outings. The Canucks, however, have been plagued by defensive breakdowns, being outscored 41-13 during their eight-game losing streak. This will be the second and final meeting between the clubs this season. Vancouver won the first matchup 2-1 in New Jersey on Dec. 14. The Devils’ recent success has been bolstered by timely goaltending, with Jake Allen making 22 saves in the win over Edmonton. Vancouver will need a similar standout performance in net to slow a New Jersey attack that has averaged 3.2 goals per game over its last 10. Following this game, New Jersey continues its road trip in Seattle on Sunday. Vancouver remains at home to host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday as it desperately seeks to halt its lengthy slide. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST at Rogers Arena.
