WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Interstat) — The Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets, two Central Division rivals seeking consistency in a challenging season, will meet Thursday night at Canada Life Centre. The Oilers (20-22-0) arrive after a 5-2 home loss to Philadelphia on Saturday, a defeat that halted a brief two-game win streak. Captain Connor McDavid, the perennial player to watch, had a goal and an assist in that loss, continuing his elite production. Over his last 10 games, McDavid has recorded 6 goals and 13 assists, including a five-assist night against Calgary on Dec. 23. Edmonton has won two of its last three, including a 3-1 victory in Winnipeg on Dec. 29. The Jets (15-25-0) are mired in a deeper slump, having lost four straight games and eight of their last nine. They are coming off a 4-2 road loss to Ottawa on Saturday. Forward Adam Lowry, a key two-way presence for Winnipeg, scored a goal in that contest. He also scored in the Jets’ 3-1 loss to Edmonton last month, one of the few bright spots in a frustrating stretch for the club. This will be the third meeting of the season between the teams. Edmonton has dominated the series so far, winning 6-2 at home on Dec. 6 before the 3-1 road win on Dec. 29. Goaltending was central in the most recent matchup, with Edmonton’s Calvin Pickard making 24 saves for the shutout victory. For the Oilers, the game represents a chance to build momentum before a four-game homestand. For the struggling Jets, it is an opportunity to halt their skid and find a spark at home before hosting the Los Angeles Kings on Friday. Both teams sit outside the current playoff picture in the Western Conference, adding urgency to the divisional clash. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
