Preview: Senators at Mammoth SALT LAKE CITY (Interstat) β€” Two teams hovering near the .500 mark will look to build momentum when the Ottawa Senators visit the Utah Mammoth in an NHL interconference matchup Wednesday night at Delta Center. The Senators (20-20-0) arrive having won two straight, including a 4-2 victory over Winnipeg on Saturday. Ottawa has shown a recent pattern of alternating wins and losses, going 5-5-0 in its last 10 contests. The Mammoth (19-23-0) have lost three of their last four, most recently a 4-1 defeat at New Jersey on Saturday. A key player to watch for Ottawa is defenseman Thomas Chabot, who is coming off a two-goal performance against the Jets. In his last seven games, Chabot has three goals and three assists while playing a physical brand of hockey, registering 15 hits over that span. His offensive surge from the blue line has been a catalyst for the Senators. For Utah, forward Michael Carcone will be a focal point. He scored the team’s lone goal in the loss to New Jersey and had a two-goal game against Pittsburgh on Dec. 14. Carcone leads the Mammoth with 18 goals this season and will be counted on to spark an offense that has been held to one goal or fewer in three of its last five outings. This is the second and final meeting of the season between the clubs. Ottawa won the first matchup 4-2 at home on Nov. 9. The game kicks off a challenging back-to-back for the Senators, who travel to face the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. Utah, wrapping up a brief two-game homestand, will host the St. Louis Blues on Friday. Both teams are in the thick of a crowded playoff chase in their respective conferences. For Ottawa, maintaining consistency has been elusive, while Utah seeks to reverse a recent slide and capitalize on home ice, where they are 11-10-0 this season. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST.
