Oilers, Jets Meet in Central Division Clash WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Interstat) ā The Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets will meet Monday night at Canada Life Centre in a Central Division matchup featuring two teams looking to build momentum before the calendar turns. The Oilers (19-19-0) arrive having won three of their last four, including a decisive 5-1 victory over the Calgary Flames on Dec. 23. Edmontonās offense has been potent, averaging 4.2 goals per game over its last 10 contests. A player to watch for Edmonton is Leon Draisaitl, who is in the midst of a torrid point streak. The star center has recorded 20 points (4 goals, 16 assists) in his last 10 games, highlighted by a three-goal performance against Calgary. Captain Connor McDavid, who had five assists in that game, continues to drive the leagueās most dangerous power play. The Jets (15-20-0) are seeking to halt a five-game skid (0-4-1) that continued with a 4-3 overtime loss in Utah on Dec. 21. Winnipeg has struggled to find consistent scoring, being shut out once and held to two or fewer goals in three other games during this slide. Winnipegās offensive hopes rest largely on winger Kyle Connor, who has six points (3 goals, 3 assists) in his last 10 games. He scored twice in the loss to Utah. The Jets will need more secondary scoring to keep pace with Edmontonās high-powered attack. This is the second meeting between the teams this month. Edmonton dominated the first matchup, a 6-2 win at home on Dec. 6, where Draisaitl had a goal and an assist. Special teams could be a decisive factor. Edmontonās power play operates at a league-leading clip, while Winnipegās penalty kill has been middling. The Jets must stay out of the box to have a chance. Following this game, Edmonton returns home to host Boston on New Yearās Eve. Winnipeg closes a three-game homestand before heading to Detroit for a Dec. 31 contest. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
