Avalanche Host Struggling Kings in Monday Night Matchup DENVER (Interstat) — The Colorado Avalanche, boasting one of the NHL’s best records, will look to continue their dominant season when they host the struggling Los Angeles Kings on Monday night at Ball Arena. The Avalanche (27-9-0) enter on a four-game winning streak, including a 1-0 shutout victory over Utah on Dec. 23. Goaltender Scott Wedgewood has been a key factor, posting a 4-0-0 record in his last four starts with a .955 save percentage, stopping 109 of 114 shots. He is expected to start in net. Colorado has been nearly unstoppable on home ice, winning 15 of their last 17 games at Ball Arena. Their offense, led by captain Gabriel Landeskog and defenseman Samuel Girard, who scored the lone goal in the recent shutout, will test a Kings team mired in a slump. Los Angeles (15-21-0) has lost seven of its last 10 games and is coming off a 3-2 home loss to Seattle on Tuesday. The Kings’ road record is a dismal 6-12-0. Their offense has consistently struggled, scoring two or fewer goals in eight of their last 11 contests. A bright spot for the Kings is winger Kevin Fiala, who has points in three of his last five games, including a goal against Seattle. He leads the team in scoring during this difficult stretch and will be relied upon to generate chances against a stout Colorado defense. The Avalanche won the only previous meeting this season, 4-1 in Los Angeles on Oct. 7. The Kings have not won in Denver since March 2023. Following this game, Colorado will host the St. Louis Blues on New Year’s Eve. Los Angeles returns home to face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Jan. 1. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST.
