Preview: Flames, Sharks Meet in San Jose SAN JOSE, Calif. (Interstat) — Two Pacific Division teams looking to build on recent overtime victories will meet Tuesday night when the Calgary Flames visit the San Jose Sharks at SAP Pavilion. The Flames (13-20-0) arrive after a 2-1 overtime win at Los Angeles on Saturday, ending a two-game skid. The Sharks (16-17-0) are riding high after a thrilling 6-5 overtime win in Pittsburgh the same night. Both clubs sit outside the current Western Conference playoff picture, making this a key matchup in a crowded divisional race. Calgary will rely on forward Blake Coleman, who scored the game-winning goal against the Kings. He has been a consistent contributor, recording three goals and three assists in his last 10 games while playing a physical style. Captain Mikael Backlund and defenseman Rasmus Andersson also provided key minutes in the win. San Jose’s offense is powered by Tyler Toffoli, who is coming off a dominant four-point performance (two goals, two assists) against Pittsburgh. In his last 10 contests, Toffoli has tallied six goals and five assists, including another four-point game against Utah on Dec. 1. Rookie Macklin Celebrini, who had a goal and two assists Saturday, adds to the Sharks’ emerging attack. The Flames have struggled on the road this season but have shown recent resilience, winning three of their last five games overall. Their victory over the Kings marked a return to the tighter defensive style that produced a 2-0 win over Utah on Dec. 6. The Sharks have been inconsistent at home but are 3-2-0 in their last five games overall, with the offense erupting for six goals twice in that span. Their defensive performance, however, remains a concern after allowing five goals to the Penguins. This is the second meeting between the teams this season. Calgary won the first matchup 2-0 at home on Nov. 13. Following Tuesday’s game, the Sharks will host the Dallas Stars on Thursday. The Flames continue their road trip before returning home to face the Seattle Kraken on Thursday.
