Flyers, Canadiens Meet in Montreal With Identical Records MONTREAL (Interstat) — Two teams riding similar waves of inconsistency will face off when the Philadelphia Flyers visit the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre on Tuesday night. Both clubs enter the matchup with identical 16-15 records across all competitions, sitting in the middle of the pack in their respective conferences. The game is a rematch of a Nov. 4 thriller in Montreal, which the Flyers won 5-4 in a shootout. Philadelphia (16-15) arrives after a 3-2 shootout loss at Carolina on Sunday, its third straight defeat (0-2-1). Center Trevor Zegras was a bright spot in that loss, scoring a goal and adding an assist. He has been the Flyers’ most consistent offensive threat, recording points in eight of his last 10 games, totaling five goals and six assists in that span. “Z is driving our offense right now,“ Flyers coach John Tortorella said after Sunday’s game. “We need others to step up and follow that lead, especially in tight games like this one will be.“ Montreal (16-15) is also looking to rebound from a tough overtime loss, falling 5-4 to the New York Rangers on Saturday. Captain Nick Suzuki set up two goals in that defeat and has been a steady playmaker, registering at least one point in nine of his last 10 contests, with 12 assists over that stretch. “Nick is seeing the ice so well and making plays under pressure,“ Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis said. “Against a team like Philadelphia, we’ll need that composure from our leaders.“ The Flyers’ recent schedule has been a gauntlet, with the last six games all against teams currently in playoff position. Their upcoming slate remains challenging, with a road game in Buffalo awaiting on Thursday. Montreal’s schedule now offers a brief respite at home before a difficult road trip later in the month. Following this game, the Canadiens host Chicago on Thursday. In net, the starting goaltenders are projected to be Carter Hart for Philadelphia and Sam Montembeault for Montreal. Both teams have struggled to find consistency in all phases, ranking in the bottom half of the league in both goals for and against per game. The matchup pits Philadelphia’s physical, forechecking style against Montreal’s speed and transition game. Special teams could be decisive, as both clubs have power-play units operating below 20% this season. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
