WINNIPEG, Manitoba (Interstat) — Two Central Division teams seeking to halt slides will meet when the Winnipeg Jets host the Ottawa Senators on Monday night at Canada Life Centre. The Jets (14-16) have lost three straight and five of their last six, including a 6-3 home loss to Boston on Thursday. The Senators (14-17) have dropped four of their last five, most recently falling 3-2 at Minnesota on Saturday. Both clubs sit outside the current playoff picture in the Western Conference, adding urgency to the matchup. Winnipeg holds a 2-1-0 record against Ottawa this season, with the teams set to meet again in Ottawa on Jan. 3. A key player to watch for the visiting Senators is center Dylan Cozens, who enters on a five-game point streak. Cozens has two goals and seven assists in that span, including a goal and an assist in the loss to Minnesota. His recent surge has made him Ottawa’s most consistent offensive threat. For the Jets, forward Morgan Barron has provided a spark with points in two of his last three games, including a goal against Boston. His physical play and recent scoring touch will be needed against an Ottawa team that features top-line talents like Tim Stutzle and Brady Tkachuk, who combined for three points in Saturday’s loss. Ottawa’s recent struggles have been marked by an inability to close out games, with three of their last four losses decided by one goal. Winnipeg, meanwhile, has been plagued by defensive lapses, allowing five or more goals in three of their last six contests. The game opens a brief two-game homestand for the Jets before they travel to St. Louis on Wednesday. The Senators continue a four-game road trip that concludes in Boston on Dec. 21. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST.
