Preview: Red Wings at Flames CALGARY, Alberta (Interstat) — The Detroit Red Wings look to build on a dramatic road victory when they visit the struggling Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Wednesday night. Detroit (15-14-0) arrives after a 4-3 win at Seattle on Saturday, secured by a third-period goal from Andrew Copp. The Red Wings have alternated wins and losses over their last five games. Copp, a center, is on a hot streak with a goal and two assists in his last three contests, including a three-point night (one goal, two assists) in a shootout loss at Columbus on Dec. 4. The Flames (11-19-0), sitting near the bottom of the Western Conference, have shown recent signs of life by winning two straight at home, including a 2-0 shutout of Utah on Saturday. Goaltender Dustin Wolf, a player to watch, stopped all 28 shots in that victory and has a .959 save percentage over his last two starts, both wins. “We’re stringing together some better efforts,“ said Flames coach Ryan Huska. “Wolf has been excellent, and we need that stability in net to compete.“ The matchup pits Detroit’s middling offense against a Calgary team that has struggled to score, ranking among the league’s lowest. The Red Wings’ power play, however, has been inconsistent, a factor coach Derek Lalonde noted must improve. “We found a way in Seattle, but we need a complete 60-minute effort,“ Lalonde said. “Calgary is playing hard and getting great goaltending, so we have to be ready.“ Wolf is expected to start for Calgary, while Detroit is likely to counter with Ville Husso, though Alex Lyon remains an option. The Flames will be without defenseman Rasmus Andersson, serving the final game of a four-game suspension. This is the first of two meetings between the teams this season. Detroit embarks on a busy stretch with a game in Edmonton on Thursday, while Calgary begins a three-game road trip in Los Angeles on Saturday. Key Matchup: Detroit’s Andrew Copp, who has points in three of his last four games, against Calgary’s surging netminder Dustin Wolf, who has two shutouts in his last five appearances. Injury Report: Red Wings: F David Perron (day-to-day, upper body). Flames: D Rasmus Andersson (suspended), F Blake Coleman (IR, lower body). Puck Drop: 8:30 p.m. MST. TV: Bally Sports Detroit, Sportsnet West.
