Preview: Golden Knights at Islanders BELMONT PARK, N.Y. (Interstat) — The Vegas Golden Knights look to build on their most complete performance of the season when they visit the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Tuesday night. Vegas (13-14-0) arrives after a commanding 3-0 road shutout of the New Jersey Devils on Friday. The Islanders (16-14-0), meanwhile, aim to rebound from a 4-1 loss at Florida on Sunday. The matchup features a compelling goaltending duel. Vegas’ Akira Schmid, who stopped all 24 shots against the Devils for his first shutout of the season, is expected to start. Schmid has been a workhorse, appearing in eight straight games and posting a 4-1-3 record with a .925 save percentage in that span. He made 20 saves in a 3-3 tie with the Islanders on Nov. 13. New York will counter with David Rittich, who took the loss against Florida despite 26 saves. Rittich has been solid for the Isles, going 4-1-1 in his last six decisions with a .921 save percentage, including a 19-save shutout of Seattle on Nov. 23. The Islanders won the season’s first meeting 4-3 in overtime in Vegas last month. Captain Mathew Barzal, who scored New York’s lone goal Sunday, and Bo Horvat lead an offense that averages 3.23 goals per game. Vegas, scoring at a 2.96 clip, is led by Jack Eichel, who had two assists in the win over New Jersey, and defenseman Shea Theodore, who had a goal and an assist in that contest. Both teams are navigating inconsistent stretches. The Golden Knights have won three of their last four but are just 6-6-2 on the road. The Islanders are 3-2-0 in their last five and hold a 9-6-0 record at home. Special teams could be pivotal. Vegas’ power play operates at 18.5%, while New York’s ranks 22nd at 16.8%. The Islanders’ penalty kill (82.1%) holds a slight edge over the Knights’ (80.5%). Following this game, Vegas continues a four-game road trip in Philadelphia on Thursday. The Islanders host Anaheim on Thursday to begin a three-game homestand. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST.
