Preview: Blue Jackets at Capitals WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Washington Capitals will look to continue their dominance over the Columbus Blue Jackets when the Metropolitan Division foes meet Sunday at Capital One Arena. The Capitals (17-12-0) have handily won both matchups this season, outscoring the Blue Jackets (13-15-0) by a combined 10-2 margin, including a 5-1 victory in Washington on Nov. 24. National Statistical’s game simulator projects a similar outcome, forecasting a 4-2 Capitals win. Washington enters on a solid run, having earned points in six of its last eight games (5-2-1). Goaltender Logan Thompson has been a cornerstone of that success, posting a 4-0-1 record with a .944 save percentage in his last five starts. He stopped 22 of 23 shots in the Nov. 24 win over Columbus. “Logan has given us a chance to win every night with his consistency,“ Capitals coach Spencer Carbery said. “We need that same focused effort against a team that plays hard and creates chances.“ Columbus arrives after a taxing 7-6 overtime loss at Florida on Saturday, their third consecutive game decided by a single goal (1-1-1). Forward Dmitri Voronkov, a player to watch, tallied a goal and an assist in that defeat. He has recorded five points (3 goals, 2 assists) in his last 10 games and will be a key part of any Blue Jackets push for an upset. “We have to be smarter defensively and learn from our mistakes against them earlier this year,“ Voronkov said through an interpreter. “It is about a full 60-minute effort.“ The Capitals’ recent offense has been balanced, with 10 different skaters registering a point in their 3-2 shootout loss to Anaheim on Friday. They will aim to exploit a Columbus team playing the second leg of a back-to-back. For the Blue Jackets, managing fatigue and tightening their defensive structure will be paramount against a Washington team that has found its rhythm at home. The Capitals have won three straight on home ice. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. The Capitals host Carolina next on Thursday, while the Blue Jackets continue a road trip in Carolina on Tuesday.
