Hurricanes Host Struggling Sharks in Sunday Matchup RALEIGH, N.C. (Interstat) — The Carolina Hurricanes will look to rebound from a lopsided loss when they host the struggling San Jose Sharks at Lenovo Center on Sunday. Carolina (16-10-0) enters the contest following a 5-1 home defeat to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. The Hurricanes had won three of their previous four games prior to that setback. The Sharks (13-16-0) arrive after a 4-1 road loss to the Dallas Stars on Friday, continuing a pattern of inconsistency. San Jose has lost four of its last six games, including a 7-1 defeat to Washington on Dec. 3, but also posted a 6-3 victory over Utah on Dec. 1. A key matchup will feature centers Seth Jarvis of Carolina and Philipp Kurashev of San Jose. Jarvis has been a driving force for the Hurricanes, recording five goals in his last five games, including a hat trick in a 5-1 win over Winnipeg on Nov. 28. Kurashev has been a bright spot for the Sharks, registering an assist in three of his last five contests and posting a goal and four assists over his last 10 games. The teams last met on Oct. 14 in San Jose, where the Hurricanes dominated in a 5-1 victory. Carolina’s offense, averaging 3.2 goals per game, will test a San Jose defense that has allowed four or more goals in four of its last six outings. The Hurricanes’ defense and goaltending have been stronger, conceding an average of 2.7 goals per game compared to San Jose’s 3.4. According to National Statistical’s game simulator, the projected final score is Carolina 4, San Jose 2. Following this game, the Hurricanes begin a three-game homestand against Columbus on Tuesday. The Sharks continue a four-game road trip in Philadelphia on Tuesday. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST.
