Oilers, Jets Seek Consistency in Saturday Night Matchup EDMONTON, Alberta (Interstat) — Two Central Division teams looking to establish momentum will meet Saturday night when the Winnipeg Jets visit the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place. The Jets (13-13-0) arrive after a 3-2 shootout loss in Montreal on Wednesday. The Oilers (12-16-0) are coming off a dominant 9-4 home victory over the Seattle Kraken on Thursday, a game that snapped a two-game skid. Winnipeg has split its last six games, going 3-3-0, but has struggled on the road recently with a 1-3-0 record in its last four away from Canada Life Centre. Center Mark Scheifele has been a consistent offensive catalyst, recording points in eight of his last 10 games, including a goal and an assist against Montreal. For the season, he has 7 goals and 11 assists in that span. Edmonton’s offense runs through captain Connor McDavid, who is coming off a four-point night (3 goals, 1 assist) against Seattle. The performance highlighted a recent surge, as McDavid has 6 goals and 6 assists in his last seven contests. His explosiveness contrasts with the team’s overall inconsistency; the Oilers have followed up their last three wins with a loss. “We know the challenge McDavid presents every shift,” said Jets coach Rick Bowness. “We need to be structured and limit his time and space. Our group responded well in Montreal to get a point, and we need to build on that effort.” The Oilers’ defensive performance remains a key variable. They have allowed four or more goals in four of their last eight games, but the nine-goal outburst against Seattle showed their high-end offensive potential. “When we play with that speed and support each other, we can be a very dangerous team,” said Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft. “The focus is bringing that same energy and detail for a full 60 minutes.” National Statistical’s game simulator projects a 3-1 victory for the Oilers. Following this game, Winnipeg begins a three-game homestand Tuesday against Dallas. Edmonton continues a four-game homestand Tuesday against Buffalo. The teams will meet again in Winnipeg on Dec. 29. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. MST.
