BOSTON (Interstat) — The Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils, two Eastern Conference teams knotted near the .500 mark, will meet Saturday night at TD Garden in a matchup highlighting a key goaltender and a resurgent forward. The Devils (16-11-0) arrive after a 3-0 shutout loss to Dallas on Wednesday, a game that extended a recent stumble where they have lost three of their last four. Their success likely hinges on the performance of goaltender Jacob Markstrom. In his last seven appearances, Markstrom is 1-4-2, allowing 20 goals on 192 shots for an .896 save percentage. He was pulled after allowing three goals on nine shots in a 5-3 loss to Philadelphia on Nov. 29. Conversely, the Bruins (16-13-0) are coming off a 5-2 victory over St. Louis on Thursday, powered by a two-goal performance from center Pavel Zacha. The former Devil has found his scoring touch lately, notching three goals and three assists over his last nine games. His line, which included Morgan Geekie (one goal, two assists vs. St. Louis), provided the bulk of the offense last outing. Both teams have mirrored each other’s inconsistency this season. New Jersey has followed promising wins, like a 5-0 shutout in Buffalo, with multi-goal losses. Boston’s win over St. Louis snapped a two-game skid (0-1-1) that included a 5-4 regulation loss in Detroit. According to National Statistical’s game simulator, the Bruins are projected to earn a 3-2 home victory. The game will be the first of a home-and-home set for the Bruins, who travel to St. Louis on Tuesday. The Devils continue a road swing in Ottawa on Tuesday before returning home next Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
