RALEIGH, N.C. (Interstat) — The Carolina Hurricanes will look to extend their home-ice success against a Toronto Maple Leafs team riding a surge of momentum when the teams meet Thursday at Lenovo Center. The Hurricanes (16-9) sit near the top of the Metropolitan Division and are 6-1-0 in their last seven games on home ice. They enter on a two-game winning streak, including a 1-0 overtime victory over the Calgary Flames on Sunday. Sebastian Aho leads Carolina with 30 points this season. Carolina defeated Toronto 5-4 in their first meeting this season on Nov. 9, part of a dominant stretch where the Hurricanes have won eight of the last 10 matchups. The Maple Leafs (12-14) have stabilized after a difficult stretch, winning three of their last four games. They are coming off a decisive 4-1 road victory against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday. Captain John Tavares scored in that win and has points in three straight games, while defenseman Troy Stecher added a goal and an assist. Goaltender Joseph Woll, who made 25 saves against Florida, is expected to start. Toronto’s recent success has been fueled by its offense, averaging 4.25 goals per game during its 3-1-0 run. Following Thursday’s contest, Carolina hosts Nashville on Saturday, while Toronto returns home to face Montreal.
