PHILADELPHIA (Interstat) — The Buffalo Sabres, riding a surge of offense, visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night in a matchup of teams heading in opposite directions. Buffalo (11-15-0) arrives having won four of its last five, including a decisive 5-1 victory over Winnipeg on Monday. The Sabres have averaged 5.2 goals per game during that stretch, highlighted by a nine-goal outburst against Chicago on Nov. 21. Philadelphia (14-11-0), however, looks to rebound from a 5-1 home loss to Pittsburgh on Monday that snapped a three-game winning streak. The Flyers had previously gone 6-1-1 in an eight-game span. The game at Xfinity Mobile Arena pits Buffalo’s recent high-scoring form against a Philadelphia team that had found consistency before its latest setback. The Sabres’ improved play has yet to lift them in the overall standings, while the Flyers aim to solidify their position above .500. The teams will meet again in Buffalo on Dec. 18. Following Wednesday’s contest, the Sabres embark on a five-game Western Canada road trip, while the Flyers host Colorado on Sunday to begin a four-game homestand.
