EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Interstat) ā A pair of teams with dim playoff hopes but intriguing young quarterbacks will meet Sunday when the Minnesota Vikings visit the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. The Vikings (6-8) arrive with momentum from a 34-26 road win over Dallas last week, their second victory in three games. The Giants (2-12), meanwhile, have lost five straight and own the NFLās worst record. The matchup features second-year signal-callers J.J. McCarthy of Minnesota and Jaxson Dart of New York, both tasked with leading struggling franchises. McCarthy is coming off one of his best performances, completing 15 of 24 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns against the Cowboys. In his last three games, he has six total touchdowns. Dart has provided a spark with his dual-threat ability for the Giants, though it has not translated to wins. In last weekās 29-21 loss to Washington, he passed for 246 yards and two scores while adding 63 rushing yards. He has accounted for five touchdowns in his last two starts. Despite their records, the Giants have been installed as a 2.5-point favorite by oddsmakers. The over/under is set at 43.5 points. A statistical projection from National Statistical forecasts a 28-22 Giants victory. Minnesotaās offense will look to build on its recent success, with running backs Aaron Jones Sr. and Jordan Mason complementing McCarthy. The Giants will rely on Dart and rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., who scored twice last week. The Vikingsā defense, which forced three turnovers in Dallas, will aim to contain Dartās mobility. New Yorkās defense, which allows an average of 28.2 points per game, must find a way to pressure McCarthy and slow a Minnesota attack that has scored 30-plus points in two of its last three outings. With both teams effectively playing for evaluation and pride in the seasonās final weeks, the duel between McCarthy and Dart offers a glimpse into each franchiseās future.
