Preview: Chargers at Cowboys, Week 16 Showdown with Playoff Implications ARLINGTON, Texas (Interstat) — A surging Los Angeles Chargers team riding a three-game win streak will face a desperate Dallas Cowboys squad in a pivotal interconference matchup at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025. The Chargers (10-4) enter as slight road favorites, aiming to solidify their playoff positioning. The Cowboys (6-7-1), however, are in must-win mode to keep their fading postseason hopes alive. A statistical projection from National Statistical forecasts a 33-22 Cowboys victory, but the pregame spread lists the Chargers as 1.5-point favorites with an over/under of 49.5. Los Angeles is led by quarterback Justin Herbert, who has been efficient and clutch during the team’s current run. In last week’s 16-13 road win over the Kansas City Chiefs, Herbert completed 19 of 29 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown. Over the last three victories, he has thrown for five touchdowns without an interception, adding a dynamic element with his legs. “Justin is managing the game at a high level right now,“ Chargers coach Brandon Staley said. “His decision-making is why we’re finding ways to win close games.“ The Cowboys counter with Dak Prescott, who has put up prolific passing numbers despite recent losses. Prescott threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 14 shootout loss to Detroit and followed with 294 yards in last Sunday’s 34-26 home loss to Minnesota. His ability to exploit a Chargers secondary will be critical for Dallas. “We have to finish drives and get stops,“ Prescott said. “We’ve moved the ball, but we haven’t always gotten the results we need.“ The Chargers’ defense, key in holding Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs to 13 points, will face a similar challenge against Prescott’s array of weapons, including running back Javonte Williams. Dallas will need its inconsistent defense to contain Herbert and a balanced Chargers rushing attack featuring Omarion Hampton and Kimani Vidal. Recent history adds intrigue. The Chargers have won four of their last five, while the Cowboys have dropped two straight and three of their last five. The venue, however, often provides a boost for Dallas. Kickoff is set for 3:25 p.m. CST Sunday. The Chargers will host Houston on Dec. 26 in their next contest. The Cowboys travel to face Washington on Christmas Day.
