Preview: Ball State Hosts Toledo in MAC Women’s Basketball Showdown CLEVELAND (Interstat) — A surging Ball State squad looks to continue its dominant season when it faces a Toledo team seeking revenge in a Mid-American Conference women’s basketball game Friday at Rocket Arena. The Cardinals (26-6), one of the conference’s top teams, enter the matchup having won 10 of their last 11 games. Their most recent victory was a 75-63 decision over Bowling Green on Wednesday, powered by a 25-point performance from guard Grace Kingery. Kingery averages 17.1 points over her last seven games and scored 24 points in Ball State’s 86-85 overtime win against Ohio on Feb. 28. Ball State defeated Toledo 78-71 just six days ago in the teams’ most recent meeting. The Cardinals also won the prior matchup this season, 72-68 on Jan. 7. The Toledo Rockets (16-14) aim to snap that streak and build on a 67-56 road win at Massachusetts on Wednesday. Guard Kendall Carruthers led the way with 16 points and four assists in that victory. Carruthers, the Rockets’ key scorer, is averaging 14.4 points over her last eight contests and had 25 points in a win at Western Michigan on March 4. Despite their sub-.500 conference record, the Rockets have shown resilience, winning three of their last five games. Containing Kingery and Ball State’s high-powered offense, which has scored 75 or more points in eight of its last 11 outings, will be Toledo’s primary challenge. The game tips off at 7 p.m. EDT Friday. A Ball State win would solidify its position atop the MAC standings, while Toledo looks to play spoiler and gain momentum heading into the postseason.
