BOISE, Idaho (Interstat) — The Idaho Vandals, one of the nation’s most dominant mid-major teams, will look to continue their march toward the postseason when they host the Sacramento State Hornets in a Big Sky Conference women’s basketball game Tuesday at CenturyLink Arena. Idaho (27-5, 15-2 Big Sky) enters the regular-season finale riding a nine-game winning streak and has already secured the top seed for the upcoming conference tournament. The Vandals, ranked among the top 30 in the latest NET ratings, have been nearly unbeatable at home this season. Sacramento State (15-17, 9-8) seeks to build momentum for the tournament after a 62-53 road win at Idaho State on Monday. The Hornets have struggled for consistency but are powered by guard Rubi Gray, who is averaging 17.4 points over her last five games. Gray scored 13 points in the teams’ last meeting. The Vandals won that Feb. 21 matchup in Moscow, Idaho, 75-60, and also took the Jan. 22 game in Sacramento, 62-55. Idaho’s balance has been key; in Sunday’s 66-52 win over Weber State, Kyra Gardner (14 points), Hope Hassmann (14 points, six assists) and Debora Dos Santos (12 points) all contributed significantly. Gardner, a versatile forward, scored 13 points with five assists in the February win over the Hornets and has been a steady force all season. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PDT tip-off. Idaho will aim to protect its perfect home record against conference foes, while Sacramento State looks to improve its seeding and prove it can compete with the league’s elite. The result will finalize the bracket for the Big Sky tournament, which begins later this week.
