Preview: SWAC Womenâs Basketball Championship COLLEGE PARK, Ga. (Interstat) â The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Golden Lions and the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes will meet for the third time this season with a conference title on the line in the SWAC Womenâs Basketball Championship on Tuesday, March 10. The seed Lady Golden Lions (13-15) swept the regular-season series against the seed Devilettes (8-22), including a decisive 68-48 victory at home on Feb. 28. Arkansas-Pine Bluff also edged Mississippi Valley State 68-66 in Itta Bena on Jan. 31. Arkansas-Pine Bluff enters the final riding the momentum of a 66-61 road win over Alcorn State on March 5. Indiya Bowen powered that victory with 26 points and four assists. The guard has been a consistent offensive force, dropping 27 points in the late-February rout of the Devilettes. She averages 22.3 points over her last three games. Mississippi Valley State, however, arrives with its own surge, having won two straight must-win tournament games. The Devilettes defeated Jackson State 66-50 on March 5 before topping Prairie View 63-49 on Monday. Guard Jaeda Murphy, who logged 13 points and five assists against Prairie View, is a key catalyst. She averaged 11.3 points and 4.3 assists over the three games leading into the championship. The matchup pits Arkansas-Pine Bluffâs offensive efficiency against Mississippi Valley Stateâs recent defensive resurgence. The Lady Golden Lions have scored at least 68 points in all three of their recent wins. The Devilettes, meanwhile, have held their last two opponents to an average of 49.5 points. The winner will earn the SWACâs automatic bid to the NCAA Division I womenâs basketball tournament. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. EDT at the Gateway Center Arena.
