ASUN Women’s Basketball Championship Preview: West Georgia, North Florida Set for First-Round Clash JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — The West Georgia Wolves and North Florida Ospreys will meet for the third time this season, this time with the season on the line, in a first-round game of the ASUN Women’s Basketball Championship on Tuesday. The seed Wolves (17-12) swept the regular-season series against the seed Ospreys (9-20), winning 76-61 at home on Jan. 8 and 75-68 in Jacksonville on Feb. 7. West Georgia enters the tournament having lost four of its last five, though its most recent outing was a marathon 118-107 quadruple-overtime loss at North Alabama on Friday. Asia Donald played all 58 minutes in that contest, scoring 24 points. Donald, a key guard for the Wolves, averaged 16.5 points in the two wins over North Florida this season. She is coming off a stretch where she scored in double figures in seven of her last eight games. North Florida, which has lost eight of its last ten, is led by guard Jamisyn Stinson. She is coming off a 20-point performance in Friday’s 79-71 loss at Jacksonville and has been a consistent scorer in recent weeks. In the Feb. 7 loss to West Georgia, Stinson was held to five points but contributed seven rebounds. The Ospreys have struggled offensively, failing to reach 60 points in five of their last eight games. Their defense will be tasked with slowing a West Georgia team that averages over 70 points per game and is capable of explosive outputs, as shown in the 107-point effort last week. The winner will advance to face seed Florida Gulf Coast in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The tournament is being held at North Florida’s home arena, which could provide a slight boost for the lower-seeded Ospreys despite their record. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EDT Tuesday at UNF Arena.
