Preview: Sun Belt Womenâs Basketball Championship First Round PENSACOLA, Fla. (Interstat) â Familiar foes will meet with their seasons on the line when seed Louisiana-Lafayette faces seed Georgia State in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Womenâs Basketball Championship on Tuesday. The Panthers (10-20) earned the higher seed and will be the designated home team after defeating the Raginâ Cajuns (4-25) 74-68 just five days ago in Atlanta. That result extended Georgia Stateâs win streak in the series to three games. Tuesdayâs winner will advance to face fifth-seeded Troy in the second round on Wednesday. Georgia State is led by guard Grace Lanier, who torched the Cajuns for 23 points in 23 minutes off the bench in the recent matchup. Lanier is averaging 17.4 points over her last five games. Crystal Henderson, who had 12 points and eight assists in the Feb. 27 game, facilitates the Panthersâ offense. Louisiana-Lafayette will counter with forward Imani Daniel, who is in the midst of a strong individual stretch. Daniel is averaging 18.3 points over her last six contests, including a 24-point effort at Troy and an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double against Arkansas State. She scored 16 against Georgia State last week. Both teams have struggled through difficult seasons. The Raginâ Cajuns have lost 10 of their last 11 games, with their only victory in that span a 57-54 win at South Alabama on Feb. 14. The Panthers have dropped seven of their last eight, with the lone win coming against Louisiana-Lafayette. The game will be a test of which team can find momentum in a neutral-site setting. Georgia State will rely on its recent success in the head-to-head matchup, while the Cajuns will look to Daniel and supporting scorers like Stephanie Mosley and Mikaylah Manley â who combined for 32 points in the last meeting â to reverse their fortunes. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET at the Pensacola Bay Center.
