Preview: Texas A&M-Commerce at Nicholls State Women’s Basketball THIBODAUX, La. (Interstat) — Two teams jockeying for position in the Southland Conference will meet Tuesday when the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions visit the Nicholls State Colonels at Stopher Gym. Both teams enter with nearly identical overall records. Texas A&M-Commerce is 13-14, while Nicholls State sits at 13-15. The matchup is a quick rematch of a Jan. 31 game in Commerce, which the Lions won 68-57. The Lions are looking to rebound from a 71-64 road loss at Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Saturday. In that game, guard Rezia Castillo led the team with 17 points. Castillo has been a key contributor, scoring in double figures in three of her last nine games, including a 17-point performance last weekend. Nicholls State snapped a three-game skid with a narrow 57-55 home victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday. Guard Sh’Diamond McKnight powered that win with 16 points. McKnight has been a consistent offensive threat for the Colonels, averaging 15.4 points over her last eight contests. She erupted for 22 points in a win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 7. Recent trends show both teams have struggled for consistency. Texas A&M-Commerce has split its last 10 games, while Nicholls State has gone 3-7 over the same stretch. The Lions have found more success on the road in conference play recently, securing close wins at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Stephen F. Austin earlier this month. For Nicholls State, protecting its home court will be critical. The Colonels are 8-5 at Stopher Gym this season. Containing Castillo and generating offense beyond McKnight will be focal points for the home team. Texas A&M-Commerce will aim to sweep the season series and climb above .500. The Lions’ defense, which held Nicholls State to 57 points in the first meeting, will be tested again by McKnight and a Colonel squad seeking revenge. Tipoff is set for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
