CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Interstat) — The surging Rice Owls, ranked among the nation’s elite with a 25-3 record, will look to continue their dominant run when they visit the Charlotte 49ers in an American Athletic Conference women’s basketball matchup Tuesday night at Halton Arena. Rice enters on a nine-game winning streak, including a commanding 105-65 victory over Tulsa on Saturday. The Owls’ offense has been prolific, averaging 78.4 points during the streak. They previously handled Charlotte with ease this season, winning 84-59 in Houston on Jan. 7. A key catalyst for the Owls is guard Victoria Flores. She is coming off a 24-point, 4-assist performance against Tulsa and has scored in double figures in five of the last seven games, providing consistent scoring and playmaking. She is supported by a deep roster; in the Tulsa win, Louann Battiston added 17 points and five assists, while Shelby Hayes contributed 20 points. The Charlotte 49ers (13-16) have struggled for consistency but have shown resilience at home, including a narrow 57-56 win over Florida Atlantic last week. Their fortunes often hinge on the production of guard Princess Anderson, who has been a bright spot. Anderson averages 19.1 points over her last seven games and scored 23 in a tight loss at East Carolina on Saturday. She will need another high-output night to challenge the conference front-runners. For Charlotte, the task is daunting. They must find a way to slow a Rice offense that shoots 48.2% from the field during its win streak while generating enough offense beyond Anderson. The 49ers have lost three of their last four. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST Tuesday. Rice’s next game is at home against Texas-San Antonio on Saturday. Charlotte will travel to face UAB on Saturday.
