JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — The North Alabama Lions and Queens (N.C.) Royals meet Tuesday in the ASUN Women’s Basketball Championship, a postseason clash with contrasting momentum. The seed Lions (16-13) enter riding an offensive high after a historic 118-107 quadruple-overtime victory over West Georgia on Feb. 27. The seed Royals (10-19) aim to reverse a recent slump and their 0-2 record this season against North Alabama. North Alabama swept the regular-season series, winning 63-60 at home on Jan. 22 and 71-55 in Charlotte on Feb. 7. The Lions are led by guard Alexsandra Alvarado, who was spectacular in the four-overtime marathon, logging 49 minutes and scoring 39 points. In the Feb. 7 win over Queens, Alvarado posted 23 points, four rebounds and four assists. Queens, which closed the regular season with a 47-65 loss at Central Arkansas, will look for a more consistent performance from forward Brenae Jones-Grant. She recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds in a win at Lipscomb on Feb. 14 but was held to seven points in the recent loss to Central Arkansas. The Lions’ path has been uneven, with a loss to Central Arkansas following the epic win. Their depth was tested against West Georgia, with Jazzy Klinge playing 51 minutes and scoring 19 points. The Royals’ last win was a 72-62 victory over West Georgia on Feb. 24. Guard Dayuna Colvin, who scored a team-high 15 points in the loss to Central Arkansas, will be a key alongside Jones-Grant. Tipoff is set for Tuesday at Jacksonville, Florida, with North Alabama seeking to advance and Queens aiming to extend its season in an upset bid.
