Alcorn State Aims to Sweep Season Series Against Visiting Mississippi Valley State LORMAN, Miss. (Interstat) — The Alcorn State Lady Braves will look to complete a regular-season sweep and solidify their standing in the Southwestern Athletic Conference when they host the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball game Tuesday. Tipoff is set for the Davey Whitney Complex on the Alcorn State University campus. The Lady Braves (15-11 overall) enter the matchup with momentum, having won five of their last seven games, including a 48-38 defensive victory at Prairie View on Saturday. Alcorn State’s recent success has been fueled by guard Kiarra Henderson, who is averaging 12.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists over her last eight contests. Henderson scored 14 points and dished five assists in the first meeting against Mississippi Valley State, a 75-72 Alcorn State road win on Feb. 5. Mississippi Valley State (6-21) seeks to halt a two-game skid and avenge the narrow February loss. The Devilettes are coming off a 68-48 defeat at Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Their offense will run through guard Jaeda Murphy, who is coming off a 22-point, 5-assist performance in a win over Texas Southern on Feb. 21 and scored 15 points in the previous game against Alcorn State. The Lady Braves have controlled the recent series, winning the last four meetings. Alcorn State’s superior record and home-court advantage make them the favorite, but the Devilettes have shown they can keep it close, as evidenced by the three-point margin last month. A win would bolster Alcorn State’s position ahead of the SWAC tournament, while Mississippi Valley State aims to play spoiler and build positive momentum heading into its regular-season finale at Jackson State on Thursday.
