SAN JOSE, Calif. (Interstat) ā A surging Colorado State womenās basketball team will look to continue its push toward postseason play when it visits struggling San Jose State in a Mountain West Conference matchup Tuesday night. The Rams (23-7 overall) enter the Event Center on a roll, having won seven of their last eight games. Their most recent victory was a 66-52 decision over Air Force on Saturday. In contrast, the Spartans (4-26) have lost eight of their last nine, including a 65-52 defeat at Grand Canyon on Saturday. The stark contrast in trajectories sets the stage for what appears, on paper, to be a lopsided affair. Colorado State, which boasts one of the conferenceās top records, previously handled San Jose State 75-60 in Fort Collins on Jan. 17. A key player to watch for the Rams is guard Brooke Carlson, who has been a consistent catalyst. Over her last eight games, Carlson is averaging 14.4 points and 4.6 assists, including a 23-point performance against Wyoming on Feb. 7. In the win over Air Force, she contributed 14 points and six assists. San Jose State will lean on guard Allie Cummins, who is coming off a season-high 24-point effort in the loss to Grand Canyon, playing the full 40 minutes. Cummins has been a bright spot in a difficult season, though her production has fluctuated. The Spartansā last win was a narrow 58-56 victory over Utah State on Feb. 18, in which Cummins scored 11 points. For San Jose State, the challenge will be containing a balanced Colorado State attack that has held opponents under 62 points in five of its last six wins. The Ramsā defense will focus on slowing Cummins, while the Spartans must find a way to counter Colorado Stateās offensive rhythm, led by Carlson. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. PST at the Event Center. Colorado State aims to solidify its conference standing, while San Jose State seeks a rare upset to build momentum heading into the conference tournament.
