CONWAY, Ark. (Interstat) — The Central Arkansas Bears will look to complete a regular-season sweep and solidify their position in the ASUN Conference standings when they host the Queens (N.C.) Royals in a women’s Division I basketball game Friday at Farris Center. The Bears (18-10) enter the matchup having won seven of their last eight games, including a 73-59 road victory at West Georgia last Saturday. Forward Linda Amaning has been a consistent contributor during that stretch, nearly posting a double-double with 9 points and 9 rebounds in the win. Central Arkansas’s defense has been a hallmark, holding opponents under 65 points in six consecutive victories. Queens (10-18) snapped a three-game skid with a 72-62 home win over West Georgia on Tuesday, powered by a season-high 21 points from guard Dayuna Colvin. The Royals will need another standout performance from Colvin, who was held to 6 points in the first meeting against Central Arkansas. That previous matchup on Feb. 4 was dominated by the Bears, who cruised to a 64-39 win in Charlotte. Central Arkansas’s defense stifled Queens, holding them to 23.7% shooting from the field. The Royals have struggled on the road this season, with their last away victory coming at Lipscomb on Feb. 14. Containing Central Arkansas’s balanced attack, which features Amaning inside and scoring from guards Bree Stephens and Cheyanne Kemp, will be Queens’ primary challenge. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Central time Friday. Central Arkansas sits in the upper tier of the ASUN standings, while Queens aims to play spoiler and build momentum ahead of the conference tournament.
