STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Interstat) ā The Stony Brook Seawolves look to solidify their standing and snap a two-game skid when they host the Hampton Pirates in a womenās NCAA Division I basketball matchup Friday at Island Federal Credit Union Arena. Stony Brook (15-12) enters the contest having dropped close road games to Towson (73-68) and Northeastern (73-60) after reeling off a five-game winning streak. The Seawolves have been strong at home, winning four of their last five in front of their own fans. Guard Sandra Frau-Garcia has been a consistent catalyst, averaging 8.9 points and 5.1 assists per game. She nearly posted a triple-double in the loss to Towson, finishing with 11 points, five rebounds and six assists. Hampton (9-17) seeks to end a five-game losing streak, its latest a 64-57 defeat to Monmouth on Sunday. The Piratesā last victory came on Jan. 30 at UNC Wilmington. Guard LeāAsia Foreman, coming off an 11-point, seven-rebound performance against Monmouth, will be a key factor for Hampton. The Pirates have struggled offensively during their slump, failing to reach 60 points in four of the five losses. The teams met earlier this season, with Hampton securing a 63-54 home win over Stony Brook on Jan. 2. The Pirates will aim to replicate that defensive effort, while the Seawolves seek revenge on their home floor. Stony Brook currently holds a winning record and will rely on its home-court advantage and balanced scoring to halt its recent slide. Hamptonās path to an upset likely requires a return to the form that saw them beat the Seawolves in January, coupled with breaking out of its offensive funk. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST on Friday, Feb. 27.
