(Interstat) — A surging College of Charleston women’s basketball team will look to continue its dominant season when it hosts William & Mary in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup Friday at TD Arena. The Cougars (21-4 overall), among the conference leaders, enter on a high note after an 88-78 road victory over Towson last Friday. That performance was fueled by a career-high 36 points from standout guard Taryn Barbot. Barbot, a consistent offensive force, has scored in double figures in six straight games, averaging 23.2 points during that stretch. They face a William & Mary squad (13-12) seeking to steady itself after back-to-back narrow losses. The Tribe fell 63-61 to Drexel on Sunday and 63-58 to Monmouth last Friday. In the loss to Drexel, guard Cassidy Geddes led all scorers with 22 points. Geddes has been a bright spot, averaging 12.3 points over her last seven contests. The teams met earlier this season, with the Cougars escaping Williamsburg, Va., with a 62-60 win on Jan. 9. That result is indicative of the recent competitive nature of the series and provides a blueprint for the Tribe, who held a high-powered Charleston offense well below its season average. For Charleston, the game represents a chance to solidify its standing atop the CAA. Beyond Barbot, the Cougars have received consistent contributions from Grace Ezebilo and Taylor Barbot, who combined for 31 points in the win over Towson. William & Mary will need a balanced effort to challenge on the road. Alongside Geddes, players like Alexa Mikeska and Marley Long, who had 10 points and nine rebounds against Drexel, will be crucial.
