NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Interstat) — A surging Austin Peay looks to continue its push for a winning season when it visits struggling Lipscomb in a women’s NCAA Division I basketball matchup Friday at Allen Arena. The Governors (15-11) enter with momentum from a dominant 82-41 victory over Bellarmine on Saturday. The Bisons (9-18), meanwhile, seek to halt a three-game skid, most recently a 68-63 loss at North Alabama. Austin Peay’s offense, which exploded for 85 points in a win over Queens (N.C.) and 82 against Bellarmine last week, will be paced by guard Ines Gnahore. She is coming off a season-high 23-point performance, adding seven rebounds in the rout of Bellarmine. Her scoring punch will be vital for a Governors squad that has shown volatility, suffering narrow losses to Central Arkansas, North Alabama and Jacksonville in recent weeks. Lipscomb will counter with its defensive anchor, Hope Counts. The versatile forward has been a consistent shot-blocking force, recording five blocks against North Alabama and seven in an overtime loss to West Georgia. Her ability to protect the rim will be crucial against a high-scoring Austin Peay backcourt. Counts is also coming off a 19-point outing, showing an expanded offensive role. The teams met earlier this season, with Lipscomb securing a 51-45 road win on Jan. 17. The Bisons will aim to replicate that defensive effort on their home floor. Austin Peay, however, has proven capable on the road this season, notching key conference wins at Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson in January. The game pits Austin Peay’s offensive firepower against a Lipscomb team that has kept games close, with four of its last five losses decided by seven points or fewer. The Governors average nearly 70 points per game, while the Bisons allow an average of 62. Tipoff is set for Friday night in Nashville.
