MARTIN, Tenn. (Interstat) — A pivotal Ohio Valley Conference women’s basketball matchup with postseason implications is set for Thursday when the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles visit the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks at Skyhawk Arena. Both teams enter the Feb. 26 contest looking to halt recent slides and improve their positioning ahead of the conference tournament. Tennessee Tech (14-12) holds a slight edge in the overall standings but has lost three straight, including a 57-70 home defeat to Lindenwood on Saturday. Tennessee-Martin (12-14) has dropped four consecutive games, most recently a 57-65 road loss at Arkansas-Little Rock. The Golden Eagles will lean on guard Chloe Larry, who has been a consistent offensive force. She scored 15 points with five rebounds in the loss to Lindenwood and poured in a season-high 28 points in a win at Tennessee State earlier this month. Her ability to score from multiple levels will be key for Tech’s offense. The Skyhawks counter with guard Brittani Wells, who nearly posted a double-double with 10 points and nine assists in 40 minutes against Little Rock. She has shown high-volume playmaking, logging 40 minutes in three of her last four outings. Her backcourt battle with Larry will be a central focus. In the season’s first meeting on Dec. 20, Tennessee Tech secured a 74-62 home victory over Tennessee-Martin. The Golden Eagles will aim for a regular-season sweep, while the Skyhawks seek to defend their home court and split the series. The game could hinge on which team reverses its recent fortunes. Tennessee Tech has struggled defensively during its skid, allowing an average of 74 points per game in the three losses. Tennessee-Martin’s offense has stalled, failing to reach 60 points in three of its four consecutive defeats. Following this contest, Tennessee Tech travels to face Southeast Missouri State on Saturday, Feb. 28. Tennessee-Martin will host Tennessee State the same day.
