LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Interstat) — Two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s basketball teams seeking momentum will meet Thursday when the Siena Saints visit the Rider Broncs at Alumni Gymnasium. Both teams enter the Feb. 26 contest on the heels of difficult seasons. Siena holds an 11-16 overall record, while Rider sits at 7-20. The matchup offers a chance for either squad to build confidence heading into the final stretch of conference play. The Saints will look to avenge a narrow 61-59 home loss to Rider on Jan. 8 in the teams’ first meeting this season. Siena is coming off a tough 81-51 defeat to Fairfield on Saturday. Guard Genevive Wedemeyer led the Saints in that loss, scoring 15 points with 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 36 minutes. She has been a consistent contributor, averaging 11.0 points over her last two games. Rider arrives following a close 56-52 road loss at Niagara on Saturday. The Broncs have shown recent resilience, however, including an overtime win at Canisius on Feb. 19. Guard Alena Cofield has been a workhorse for Rider, logging 39 minutes and posting a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds against Niagara. Over her last three contests, she is averaging 9.7 points and 7.7 rebounds. The game will feature a contrast in recent trajectories. Siena has lost three straight, with its last win coming against Manhattan on Feb. 8. Rider has split its last four games, showing improved competitiveness after a mid-season slump. With the MAAC tournament on the horizon, securing a positive result is crucial for both programs. The Saints will aim to leverage their higher-scoring offense, while the Broncs will rely on their recent defensive efforts, having held three of their last five opponents under 60 points. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. Siena will host Marist on Saturday, while Rider will travel to face Mount Saint Mary’s.
