Preview: Seattle Redhawks at Washington State Cougars NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. (Interstat) — Two teams seeking to halt lengthy slides will meet Thursday when the Seattle Redhawks visit the Washington State Cougars in a nonconference women’s basketball game at Beasley Coliseum. Both programs enter with identical 5-win records, though Seattle sits at 5-21 overall while Washington State is 5-24. Each squad carries a significant losing streak into the matchup, setting the stage for a battle of teams desperate for a positive result. The Redhawks have lost nine consecutive games since their last victory on Jan. 15. Their most recent outing was a 65-61 home loss to Portland on Feb. 21, a game in which they held a late lead before faltering. Seattle will lean heavily on guard Ella Brubaker, who has been a consistent bright spot during the skid. She is coming off a 20-point, 9-rebound performance against Portland and has averaged 21.3 points over her last seven games, including a 27-point effort at San Diego on Feb. 7. Washington State has fared no better, mired in an eight-game losing streak. The Cougars are coming off a 79-51 road loss to Oregon State on Feb. 21. Their last win was an 80-76 victory at San Diego on Feb. 5. The Cougars will counter with guard Mackenzie Chatfield, who leads the team in assists. Chatfield scored 16 points in that win over San Diego and is averaging 9.7 points over her last seven contests. The teams met earlier this season, with Washington State securing a 73-69 road win over Seattle on Jan. 4. Thursday’s game represents one of the final opportunities for either team to build momentum before their respective conference tournaments. Following this contest, Seattle will host Pepperdine on Feb. 28, while Washington State will host Saint Mary’s the same day. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time.
