OMAHA, Neb. (Interstat) — Two teams jockeying for position in the Big East standings will meet Thursday when the Creighton Bluejays host the Providence Friars in a women’s basketball matchup at CHI Health Center. The conference clash features teams with nearly identical records. Providence arrives at 14-15 overall, while Creighton sits at 13-14. Both are seeking a winning streak to build momentum ahead of next month’s conference tournament. The Friars won the first meeting this season, 80-77, in Providence on Jan. 17. In that game, Creighton rallied from a 17-point deficit but fell short. Providence is looking to rebound from a tough 81-38 loss at Connecticut on Sunday. Payton Dunbar provided a bright spot in that defeat, scoring nine points in 15 minutes off the bench. The freshman guard has seen increased minutes in February and will be a player to watch. Creighton enters with confidence after a 67-58 road victory at Butler last Wednesday. Standout guard Ava Zediker led the way with 13 points and three assists. Zediker has been a consistent force for the Bluejays, averaging 14.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists over her last seven games, including a 25-point, six-rebound, six-assist performance in an overtime win over Marquette on Feb. 8. The Friars have shown resilience, winning four of their last six games prior to the UConn loss, including a 66-60 victory over DePaul on Feb. 18. Creighton’s recent form has been uneven, mixing impressive wins with lopsided losses. Thursday’s contest could hinge on backcourt play, matching Providence’s depth against the high-usage production of Creighton’s Zediker. The game also carries implications for seeding in the upcoming Big East tournament, with both teams clustered in the middle of the conference table. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CST at CHI Health Center Omaha.
