PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (Interstat) — A Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women’s basketball rematch is set for Thursday when the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks host the North Carolina Central Eagles at the William P. Hytche Center. The Hawks (15-13 overall) look to avenge a 69-62 road loss to the Eagles on Feb. 2 and solidify their position in the conference standings. The Eagles (8-17), meanwhile, aim to sweep the season series and build momentum from their recent victory over South Carolina State. North Carolina Central’s Tierney Coleman, who scored seven points in the first meeting, enters on a strong run. The guard is averaging 10.4 points over her last five games, including a 17-point, seven-rebound performance in the win over South Carolina State on Feb. 18. She followed that with a team-high 14 points in a loss at Howard on Saturday. Maryland-Eastern Shore counters with guard Dayshawna Carter, who is coming off a 22-point outing in a narrow 66-64 road win at Coppin State on Feb. 21. Carter was held to nine points in the earlier loss to NCCU. Forward Kaliya Perry, who posted eight points and 10 rebounds against Coppin State, will be key in the paint. The Hawks have been inconsistent in conference play, following a three-game win streak with losses to Norfolk State and Howard before the Coppin State victory. The Eagles have struggled for consistency all season but have shown flashes, including the overtime win against Morgan State and the earlier victory over UMES. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. EST on Thursday, Feb. 26. Following this game, Maryland-Eastern Shore will host South Carolina State on Saturday, while North Carolina Central travels to face Delaware State.
