Preview: Montana Lady Griz at Sacramento State Hornets SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Sacramento State Hornets will look to complete a regular-season sweep and solidify their conference standing when they host the struggling Montana Lady Griz in a Big Sky women’s basketball matchup Thursday at Colberg Court. The Hornets (12-16, Big Sky record TBD) earned a 64-57 victory in Missoula on Jan. 31 in the first meeting this season. Sacramento State has gone 3-4 since that win but is coming off a 69-60 road victory at Eastern Washington on Feb. 19 before falling at Idaho last Saturday. Montana (7-19, Big Sky record TBD) has lost six straight games, including an overtime heartbreaker to Weber State, 86-79, on Feb. 21. The Lady Griz’s last win was a 69-63 decision over Portland State on Jan. 29. A key matchup will feature two of the conference’s top guards. Sacramento State is led by Benthe Versteeg, who is averaging 17.0 points, 5.3 assists and 5.0 rebounds over her last three games. She was instrumental in the first win over Montana, logging 38 minutes with 17 points and 7 assists. Montana will counter with Rae Ehrman, who is coming off one of her best performances of the season in the overtime loss to Weber State, scoring 13 points and grabbing 6 rebounds in 22 minutes. Her production will be critical for a Lady Griz offense that has been held under 65 points in five of its last six contests. For Sacramento State, maintaining its defensive intensity from the first matchup, where it held Montana to 32.8% shooting from the field, will be a priority. The Hornets have shown resilience at home this season and will aim to build momentum before hosting Montana State on Saturday. Montana, meanwhile, is searching for answers to snap its prolonged skid. Protecting the ball and finding consistent scoring outside of Ehrman and Avery Waddington, who had 14 points and 5 assists against Weber State, will be essential. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PST Thursday. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
