COLUMBIA, S.C. (Interstat) — The South Carolina Gamecocks, riding a 10-game winning streak and boasting one of the nation’s most dominant records, will host the struggling Missouri Tigers in a Southeastern Conference women’s basketball matchup Thursday night at Colonial Life Arena. South Carolina (27-2, 15-1 SEC) enters the contest as a heavy favorite, having won its last three games by an average of 31 points. The Gamecocks’ most recent outing was a commanding 85-48 victory over Mississippi, showcasing their depth and defensive prowess. Sophomore forward Joyce Edwards has been a force, averaging over 20 points per game in her last five contests, including a 28-point performance at Texas A&M on Feb. 2. Missouri (16-13, 6-10) arrives in Columbia looking to halt a four-game skid, most recently a 108-55 loss at LSU on Sunday. The Tigers have faced a brutal stretch of conference play, with their last three losses coming by an average margin of 38 points. Guard Chloe Sotell has been a bright spot, leading the team in minutes and contributing across the board, including an 11-point, 7-rebound effort in the loss to LSU. The Gamecocks have been virtually unstoppable at home, where they have not lost this season. Their defense, which allows just 54.2 points per game, will look to overwhelm a Missouri offense that has been held under 60 points in three of its last four games. South Carolina’s interior presence, led by Edwards and center Madina Okot, who posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds against Mississippi, presents a significant challenge for the undersized Tigers. For Missouri to have any chance at an upset, it will need a high-efficiency shooting night from Sotell and fellow guard Grace Slaughter, who scored 14 against LSU, while finding a way to slow South Carolina’s multifaceted attack. The Gamecocks, however, have shown no signs of vulnerability as they continue their march toward the postseason, making this a daunting task for the visiting Tigers. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. South Carolina will visit Kentucky on Sunday to close the regular season, while Missouri will host Oklahoma.
