GAINESVILLE, Fla. (Interstat) — The Mississippi Rebels look to solidify their postseason resume while the Florida Gators aim to play spoiler when the Southeastern Conference women’s basketball teams meet Thursday night at the O’Connell Center. Mississippi (21-8) enters the final stretch of the regular season seeking a bounce-back performance after a lopsided 85-48 loss at South Carolina on Sunday. The Rebels had won three of four prior to that defeat, including an impressive 94-81 victory over Tennessee on Feb. 17. A key for the Rebels will be forward Christeen Iwuala, who is coming off a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) against the Gamecocks. Over her last eight games, Iwuala is averaging 12.4 points and 5.1 rebounds, providing consistent interior production. Florida (16-13) has experienced a streaky conference slate but remains dangerous at home, where it is 11-4 this season. The Gators are also looking to rebound after a narrow 76-71 home loss to Alabama last Sunday. Their offense flows through dynamic guard Liv McGill, who is in the midst of a stellar individual campaign. McGill is averaging 21.6 points, 6.4 assists and 5.4 rebounds over her last seven contests, including a 30-point, 7-assist effort in a win at Mississippi State on Feb. 19. The matchup pits Mississippi’s pursuit of a high conference tournament seed against Florida’s need for a signature late-season win to bolster its own postseason hopes. The Rebels won the season’s first meeting, 82-61, in Oxford on Jan. 8. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST. Mississippi concludes its regular season at home against Texas A&M on Sunday, while Florida travels to face Georgia the same day.
