HACKENSACK, N.J. (Interstat) — A surging Le Moyne women’s basketball team faces its toughest conference test Thursday when it visits first-place Fairleigh Dickinson at the Rothman Center. The Dolphins (10-18) enter on a season-best five-game winning streak, their longest in Division I, but confront a Knights squad (24-4) that has dominated the Northeast Conference and handed them a 56-41 loss just over a month ago. Fairleigh Dickinson, winners of 11 straight, boasts one of the nation’s most dramatic turnarounds after a four-win campaign two seasons ago. They have been nearly untouchable in league play, winning by an average margin of 19.2 points. Their defense has been stifling, holding opponents to 52.9 points per game during the win streak. Le Moyne’s resurgence has been fueled by improved offense, averaging 67.2 points during its streak after scoring 54.7 in its first 23 games. The Dolphins are coming off a 53-49 grind-out win over Stonehill on Saturday. The matchup features two of the league’s top performers. Le Moyne will lean on forward Ashley Buragas, who is averaging 20.1 points and 6.9 rebounds over her last seven games. She erupted for 30 points and eight rebounds in a win at Chicago State on Feb. 14. Fairleigh Dickinson counters with versatile forward Kailee McDonald, a consistent force who posted 21 points and eight rebounds in a win at New Haven last Saturday. She averages 11.6 points and 5.6 rebounds for the season. In the Jan. 24 meeting, the Knights held Le Moyne to 27.3% shooting from the field. Containing Buragas, who was limited in that first matchup, will be a key focus for the Knights’ top-ranked conference defense. A Le Moyne victory would be a monumental upset and solidify its late-season push, while Fairleigh Dickinson aims to maintain its firm grip on the conference standings heading into the final stretch before the league tournament. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. EST.
